At the age of four, I helped my mom care for my great-grandfather because other family members were unable to help. My mom was an RN in the ICU, and I loved reading through her medical textbooks. From that moment I was hooked and was fascinated with medicine.
I love building relationships with patients and being able to empower them to live healthier lives. I like being able to be a source of comfort and compassion for people at times when they’re ill.
Educating patients is essential to me and allows them to better care for their health. I want them to understand the disease process, why specific treatments may be recommended and what they can do to help make themselves healthier.
I received my Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from Grand Valley State University in 2002 and have worked in several different areas of medicine including family medicine, urgent care, as a hospitalist in internal medicine, and occupational health. I enjoy family medicine, as I’m able to build relationships with my patients and work toward long term health goals with them.
Preventing health problems is easier than treating them. Taking responsibility for your health is essential.
Although I didn’t move to Grant until I was 11, I spent my childhood summers at my Grandparents’ house on Little Sand Lake. I graduated from Grant High School and married my high school sweetheart. I love cooking, reading, and the great outdoors. I also enjoy playing, coaching and watching sports.
