Family Health Care aims to increase access to OB/GYN services

You don’t have to travel far to find compassionate, personalized health care for women. Family Health Care provides a wide range of personalized gynecological and obstetrical services for women close to home in Baldwin.

Dannie Gentry, MD, has provided women’s health care in Baldwin for 25 years and is accepting new patients. Services include female wellness exams, prenatal and pregnancy care, menopause management, pelvic health conditions, cancer screenings, contraception prescriptions, and other common female health issues.

“Dr. Gentry is a well-known OB/GYN in Mason and Lake counties,” said Jennifer Howe, RN, clinical operations director for Family Health Care. “With the local and nationwide OB/GYN shortage, it can often be months before women can be seen by a physician, but at Family Health Care, we are usually able to get patients in to be seen by Dr. Gentry within a week or two of scheduling an appointment.”

Women face many barriers in the health care system, including affordability and accessibility. Family Health Care is working to reduce those barriers to ensure everyone has access to quality, integrated, and comprehensive health care services.

“It’s part of our mission and vision,” Howe said. “We want to provide 100-percent access to care without any health disparities for our patients. We don’t turn anybody away, regardless of what kind of insurance they may or may not have. We also offer a sliding fee scale, which makes services affordable for everyone based on how much they can financially support.”

Family Health Care accepts patients who have Medicaid, Medicare, commercial insurance, or no insurance at all.

“We recognize a huge need for women’s health services in our area,” said Howe. “Women are faced with the choice of having to travel long distances for care or simply going without care, which puts their health at risk. Pregnant women are at even greater risk when they don’t receive prenatal care as they are three-to-four times more likely to experience a pregnancy-related death.”

Family Health Care is a Federally Qualified Health Center with clinics in Lake, Newaygo, Mecosta, Missaukee, Osceola, and Wexford counties.
